New cars

Today I was looking at new cars, and the different types out there that catch my eye.  I was looking at the Suzuki Swift, which is not want I want to like, but oddly I find myself liking it. I have a ten year old Corsa, which is in need of trading and I looked at a Corsa on Sunday, which was nice but just nothing special.  I have driven a lot of new cars in my work, and I like Vauxhalls, don’t get me wrong, but the Corsa felt just a little empty.   It did not have any pull (less than my 0.97 litre).  It was a 1.2 litre engine, which I know is not the largest of engines out there, but my point still stands that it should have more pull (still petrol) than a less than one litre ten year old hunk of red junk.

So while on the Internet today I found the Swift.  Suzuki was not something that crossed my mind, but seeing this car I actually liked he styling. There is something just so Oriental about the vehicle.  I went to Japan a few years back and loved the fact they would take something simple like a family waggon and do it up in a way that chavs do not.  Yes it had the sound system in it and the lights and spinners and alloys, but it had laminate wood floors, and other tweeks like that.  I love that kind of slightly transformer style shaping, not the “sleek” curves of all these new Clios and Corsas that look so similar, but the slightly blocky, cut out sections of the Suzuki, ad despite the fact it looks like a box I like it.

And then I found something else I like.  Out of my price range I swiftly (no pun intended) add, and against all previous dislikes at the inaccurately named mini, it was a mini.  Ish.

I found it indirectly through Piston Heads, while looking for used cars, and It is the new Mini Coupe.

Here is a link to one of my favourite websites, with the mini coupe in it.  www.wired.com/autopia/2009/08/mini-anniversary/  and I have to say, I like it.  The car has a Mini Cooper JWC engine which will give roughly 208bhp, and while it is a concept, who knows, it may become reality after the Frankfurt show.

Apparently tonight my taste in cars has gone against all odds, double backed on me, and come round for a full loop.  Now back to piston heads to find another car!

Onitsuka

I bought some new trainers the other day which have finally come through in the post, and while I am not entirely sure on them, I think I will be keeping them.  They are Onitsuka Tiger trainers, of which i own one other pair and wear almost every day as they are ridiculously comfortable.  So you would think that if you fit perfectly in the size 10 of one pair you would fit perfectly in the size ten of the same brand on any other pair.  Evidently I was wrong.  They are the same style, normal running shoe trainer, same as used by the Japanese team in the Olympics in 1966, and they are also the same size.  What I forgot to consider was the fact that they are more leather than other material, and so of course this will take a while to become the right size.  I worked in Fashion for 6 years, debatable on the use of the term fashion, and I even worked solely on the shoe department for a year on the men’s side, and for a year on the women’s side.  You would think this would give me an idea about shoes, and while yes I can identify a Kitten Heel along with identifying all the stupid shoe symbols (chopped up cow skins symbol = Leather, who knew) I did not consider this factor.  Either way, it is the red laces which I am undecided about.  It is not so much that they are red, I am ginger, and so have had it built into me innately not to wear Red, but it is the strange material they are made of.  I assume they have been given a coating which means they appear to have magnetic properties in that they undo themselves and slide across as if they are floating on a thin layer of ice gently spread between them, no matter how tight they are tied.

Enough moaning, they are Onitsuka Tiger Lauta (Zodiac range in the year of the Ox), bought from Schu, and they are going to be comfortable.  Whether they like it or now.  Anyway, for 30 quid, and to mean I now have a shoe collection to rival my girlfriends ( I have 5 pairs she has 60…) you cannot go much wrong.  Have a look on schu, they still have some left…

PlayStation 3 Slim

•August 18, 2009 • 1 Comment

Rumours have been bouncing around for months of a Playstation 3 slim, and similar rumours about a PS3 price cut.  Deservedly some might say, since the PS3 still towers above other consoles on a cost scale.

They have now announced at GamesCom, in Germany, that the PS3 will be released in the first week of September, and will cost 299 Euros, 299 US Dollars, and 29980 JPY.  No British price yet, much to my disappointment, but a couple of trips to XE make me want it to be converted form either USD or JPY, since then it will cost £185 over here.  Likelihood is that it will be converted form the Euro version, making it £250.  Not impressed with the final conversion, and odds are that it is going to cost that, as why would Sony be nice… I understand the problems with the financial climate, but do wonder how they can feasibly release it as such wildly different price points?

All the same, the slim version will have Blu Ray, 120GB hard drive and will still come packaged with a Dual Shock 3 controller.  If we are lucky, the price might be reasonable, and they might chuck a game in too!

Update:  The UK price will be £250.  Typical eh.

New Phone – Satio

I want a new phone.  I have wanted one since I first caught glimpse of the Sony Idou. And still want it now they have changed their name to Satio (why, I do not know).

Sony Ericsson Satio, in three colours

Sony Ericsson Satio, in three colours

I have had Sony Ericssons for years now, since I was 16 when I had the T300 which had a clip on camera attachment.  It was  a block of a phone, but I loved the interface and still do.  I think it is by far the easiest to use, and for that reason have not yet strayed from the Sony Ericsson path.  I have avoided the iPhone at all costs so far, for the simple reason of the Camera.  In my opinion, and it is my opinion, the Sony Ericsson phones have by the far the best cameras out there, and now that it is releasing the Satio with a 12.1mega pixel camera built in, I have no reason to consider looking elsewhere.  This website provides an extensive video review of the phone if you want some more information Hands-on with the 12.1-megapixel Sony Ericsson Satio smartphone  and is written by Julian Prokaza.  Unfamiliar with the correct way to give credit,  I hope that will do.

What else the phone can do comes in a multitude of evils, form Wifi, 3.5″ touch screen, Track ID (This was the original, whats that song playing, record and it will tell you, before the iPhone used their software and took most of the credit..) and it also sends media messages, and makes phone calls.  It will be capable of playing good quality movies as well, though I have yet to see the quality and wonder whether you would really want to watch a movie on such a small screen, in addition to what this will do to the battery.

So I am now waiting for the release of this is October and sit quietly wondering what the price Tag will be.  I read somewhere that it will be roughly 600 Euros, which I m hoping will be the cost sim free, and that with a decent contract will be cheaper, otherwise I may have  to surrender and join the iPhone toting hordes.   Until I know this, I will just continue wondering and maybe write some more when it goes to press.

Well. Where do you start, In February I said I would write a post a week.   It is now evident that this has not happened, my evidence being no posts since February.  But I intend to start a fresh.  I think I am now turning the leaf back over again, and have no niche, no audience and no theme, but I do have an opinion.  My girlfriend has a successful blog on fashion, my sister has a successful blog on fashion.  Therefore, I will write a successful blog not on fashion.  Impossible I hear you all cry, you all being nobody.. as of yet.  But give it time I will draw you in.  Prepare to be confused, amused and even bemused as I take you on the rollercoaster journey that is my butterfly love for anything I land on that day.  There will be no theme (watch me renege on this at a later date…) I may discuss funky fittings, tv shows, cars (as I am looking to buy a newer one) anything that I am thinking about that day.

So lets begin.
