Well, it has been a while. Last post I wrote I had a chest infection and was beginning my first part of my CIPD. Since I cannot remember when I last had the chest infection, without looking at the date I have no idea how long ago it was. With the exception of nigh on a year. So with a pop, fizz, boom, bang wallop I am going to make my re-entry into the blogosphere, assuming I do not burn up on entry. My exams for my CIPD are tomorrow, which gives me some idea of the length of my absence, and I am less prepared than I had hoped. The revision seems to go like water off a ducks back, and that which I do seem to remember, I lose all contextual meaning to within an hour. So Models, Quotes, and Theories keep a certain meaning, but lose their title and their capital letter.
It does not help to own House of the Dead: Overkill, as this is a distraction that seems to call to me. Stupid Siren of a computer game. Add to that the fact yesterday was Valentines, an you have an excellent array of distractions to keep you from revising. Anyway, I hope to write my next blog this week, and in the Tibetan sense, find my self in the Blogging sense. I may even have a theme before the month is out. PS, do not hold me to this.
Well, work was ok today, did not have much motivation as still felt pretty naff, but I ploughed on with the day, finding out how many materials science students we had from Cambridge, looking at the drop off stats for last years figures by gender and by ethnicity, and sorting the odd email, such as changing a profile about the company for the 2009 company guide. Then after a brilliant lunch of stir fried chicken and somebodies birthday cake (they were 40 and had the nicest cake with fresh whipped cream on top) I decided to have a quick look at my first essay. It is the widest most broad ranging title possible. The way that the course is taught is so that half of it is, well, taught, and then the other half is self taught. There is obviously reading for the taught part, but much more for the self motivated sections. Ok, so the essay is to look at the legislation and regulations within companies, and whether they are having an adverse effect, and then to relate this to my company, while also looking at the strategies my company use, and an external and internal analysis as to how these strategies can be effected by these legislations and regulations. This is not the exact wording of the essay, but I don;t want to write it directly So it is a wide essay title to start off with. Add to this the fact I have to write it in 2500 words, and I have very limited knowledge of Employment Law outside of recruitment specific. Add to this the fact my books, which everyone else got 2 weeks ago, have still not arrived, and you see my problems. But, I have started digging around, the meeting I had with one of the girls from my course on Monday helped firstly, as she did a Law degree and has a new job working as an HR adviser. Next, the office I work in has some huge perks, it is often used by the higher powers of the company and so I am on good terms with them to ask for help. So I have had a few emails flung back and forth between me and the HR Employee Relations Chief, and so I now have some more understanding of what direction to head. I have an opening paragraph, and plan in mind for how it will pan out. I also have some bed time reading from the Communications Conference that my colleague went to, so I can read and begin analysing our company strategy. So, now I am off to cook, before reading through large quantities of strategy information!
Well, I was Ill all yesterday, and still am today, some lousy insignificant chest lurking antibiotic hating chest infection. Got told to go to the doctors by work, and then got given antibiotics. Lauren is understandably worried about how many antibiotics I take, which is not really that many, but I was Ill at Easter and Ill yesterday. There seems to be a direct correlation between going home and getting ill, which is disconcerting to say the least, but either way, I am feeling much better now. Felt rough this morning after a crap nights sleep, so did not go work on time.. went in an hour later, but since I did an hour yesterday morning before I was sent home, I figure it is neither here nor there. So the amoxicillin seems to be working, and hopefully there is no chance of a super amoxicillin immune beast of a virus coming along and settling on my lungs, but on the off chance that there is, I will have to go to something more powerful! So let’s hope that does not happen!! Or that I am off amoxicillin now for a while, long enough to not create or foster a Mr Hyde virus. NI just read that and it makes me sound like I am on drugs. I assure you I have never taken anything that was not prescribed, and that is only my inhalers and amoxicillin normally. They seem to like to dish it out to anybody with Asthma.
I saw this video for the first time today,. It was put on the web on Friday, and since then it has had nearly 4 million views, probably over by the time you get to reading this. It is Weezers new song, and is a brilliant compilation of internet viral videos, or memes. It has everything in it from Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Star Wars Kid, to Leave Britney Alone and the Coke and Menthos Experiment. I love the song, and think they have produced an excellent summary of generation Y’s meme interest in just over 3 minutes. So without further adieu, enjoy!
Well had a surprisingly quickly over and good day at work today. Had some stats to do in the morning, and then had some work to do on an advert for a competiton to send off before lunch. Then after lunch, and after a quick trip to town to pay some money into the bank, I had a meeting with a company called Rate My Placement. As my job entails recruiting both graduates and placements this was an interesting meeting with a company I have been speaking to over the phone and through email quite a bit. It is a newish company, been running now for 13 months, and they have been collecting placement ratings by students, for students. This of course explains the slogan “By students, for Students” which emblazons a vast quantity of their pages and media guides. All in all it is a good idea for a company, set up by 4 Lads from Loughborough. The idea behind it, is that once you have done a placement, you then go on and write a review about your 3 months of summer of internship, These get attached to the company that you were working with, and future prospective placement students can look on here and find out which companies were rated highly, or low(ly), to give them an honest idea of who is good to work for, and who could potentially be, well, less so. I will put a link on the side of the blog for any future placement hunters to use, but for now I shall also link you up here: www.ratemyplacement.co.uk I hope that this website helps people find an honest representation of their placements, since they provide a certain level of anonymity. They will be going to universities over the next few months and organising going to careers fairs, so if you are at a UK university and wanting to go on a placement, of any duration, have a look at their site, and keep an eye out for them on campus. By the way, believe it or not, I don’t work for them, I just think they have a good idea, and cannot see any harm in promoting it.
On Sunday my best mate Phil helped me install his old stereo in my car. I have been driving it for 6 months with no music, or sound in general, so this was a blessing, and it is a bloody amazing stereo too. So, I shall add more to this soon, but for now shall just say thanks Phil, I owe you!!
Well, I got up today thinking it was going to be another week until I was going to see my lovely girlfriend, as she is on her way from Lancaster to London to do advertising for 2 weeks, and I work in Leamington. A lot of L’s. I had a lunch date with a girl form my course as she had her bag stolen while she was in London, which meant that her Literature was all stolen from her bag. She had the books all replaced by CIPD straight away, but she had lost the hand written notes. So I offered to copy mine. Offered after I was asked. But would have offered either way. So I was meant to meet her in the Slug and Lettuce for lunch at 1.30. That way we could chat about the essay which is on Legislation and Regulations in the work place having an adverse effect on company efficiency and practice. So 2 came, I figured I should buy a drink as she had not yet arrived. I had no intention of being kicked out of the place, as I had the sofas, so I went to the bar. 3 came, and I bought another drink. Then at quarter past my friend arrived. Now, I will give her some credit, as she did text me 3 times (while stuck in traffic) to inform me she was stuck in traffic. Had some lunch and scribbled down some good legislations to look up and new acts that had and were coming into play, she did a Law Masters, which helps. So during a short break of me interrogating her, she nipped to the ladies, and the bar man came over to clear our plates, and asked “was everything ok” to which i said yes, then he was nice enough to say “She turned up eventually then.” I laughed and said yes, but then realised hang on, does he think it was a fatal “stood up” date. Ignoring it, I then shot off at 4.15 as Lauren (She is my wench) was on a train that had to pass through, and her change at, Leamington. So I was going to get to see her for 15. But as it was a virgin train… she was late, missed her connection, so I got her for half an hour instead After hanging round the train station from 4.25 till 5:40, I then received a phone call form my sister asking if I would help her with her bags when she got off the train, (She now lives and works in Leamington too) I had a 50 minute break, where i went home, dried off, and then went back to the station to meet her. Was a polaverous day, a day of much polava , but I am now relaxing and intend to watch the tele and decide what direction I should be heading in Life . Well. On my blog at least. I feel I need to stop gibbering, and write something meaningful and possibly useful, as while these are not interesting thoughts, they are more a high resolution regurgitation of my days events. So If anybody happens to pass by, all 6 of you a day… give me some ideas. Please. Where are my manners.
What a joke. I have no idea why I watched it, up until the point where they vote I find it amusing. The most amusing aspect of course being Terry Wogan, who has now said he may never do it again. Which is a pity. But, back to the voting, now I am not meaning to sound ungrateful, we got 14 points, which is better than last year, and ten of those I would say were through “political voting” at least, however, the Greek entry was much better than the winner. The winner of course was Russia, and by no means was it the worst, but it was definitely not the best, unless you like Michael Flatley. I personally liked the Pirate entry, but maybe that was just because they were Pirates, and who doesn’t like Pirates. But, due to fears of many countries waking without Oil or Gas the following morning, they voted politically for Russia. The bloc voted for Russia, most of the East voted for Russia. and They won by 40 or so points. It was kind of pointless. The musical element has been overlooked, there is no way that people can say they voted based on the musical merits o the countries, Granted ours was rubbish, sorry Andy Abraham, but the stupid political dominance has ruined any point of the competition happening. Unlike Big Brother, which I refuse to watch, I will still probably tun in next year, albeit to turn off at the point the voting begins. Let us hope they find a satirical commentator as profoundly amusing as Terry Wogan.
Let me know who you think should have won and what you think about the contest.
Well I went home Saturday morning, figured it was about due time. The reason I returned was because my step brother had a new child about 9 months ago, and until Saturday I had not seen said child. Her name is Maria and she is very lovely. When I got there my step dad decided to just plonk her on me, to which she promptly reacted to with a flood of tears and some rather strange pitched wailing. I swiftly placed her on the floor and then as the day went on she warmed to me and began playing football with me. she could throw the ball (size 2 ball) and she could also accurately dive onto either side to stop it going past her. Better than I can do! I have some pictures of her, which I will put up soon. Soon being now.
Just a quick one this, went to the cinema the other week and saw this Orange Advert with Snoop Dog in it, much better than the Steven Seagal one, even though he is a fantastic Martial Artist…
